Q.What is the Operation "Paper Chase"?
Asked by:Raginee on 01/02/2019
Ans#1 The University of Farmington in USA was a fake university created in 2015 in an operation termed “Paper Chase” which was designed by Homeland Security agents to track down and arrest recruiters and others who were working to help foreign students stay in the country illegally. Federal agents made up an elaborate plan, setting up a website for the university, which stated, “Located in the heart of the automotive and advanced manufacturing center of Southeast Michigan, the University of Farmington provides students from throughout the world a unique educational experience. Our dynamic business administration and STEM curriculum allows students to rapidly apply their knowledge; preparing them to succeed in an ever-globalising economy."

A simple google search reveals an official page to the college which states it has been in place since 1950. The university offered just one class per semester, and had just two rooms, offers bachelors and masters courses in science and business administration, charges tuition of USD 2,000 to 2,500 every quarter according to some reports.

It was found that the foreign students who were present in the country, were using proof of having a student F-1 visa, obtained via enrolling in the university to get a Day 1 CPT (Curricular Practical Training). The CPT allowed students on the F-1 visa to be able to obtain a part-time job, which then paved the way for them to continue staying in the country.

In a crackdown through this fake University Sting operation, hundreds of Indians living in the US face deportation, a further ban on entering into the country, and even arrest, because of a massive operation conducted by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security with the sole aim of trapping immigration agents and illegal immigrants, who were extending their stay in America on the pretext of being students. While eight agents, almost all of them from Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, have been arrested so far, at least 600 students of the university are under the scanner – and most of them are Indians.

Q.Whether Home Schooling is becoming popular in India?
Asked by:Raginee on 28/01/2019
Ans#1
National Institute of Open Schooling (in India) provides an option to admit children and conducts exams at the level of Class 10 and 12. The children can take up exams any time within five years from admissions. Children who are perusing sports, arts or any other kind of profession/ hobby find home schooling a very useful feature wherein they can use their time effectively in balancing both the assignments. Home schooling is also a handy option for the parents who due to some reason either unable to send their children to the conventional school or they are not comfortable with the system of study adopted by the school. The NIOS exams are conducted as per the curriculum as per the NCERT Norms.
The Children also have to option to continue with their education by registering with Open Secondary School Certificate Boards (some Indian States have them). Admissions to the NIOS are continuously showing an upwards trend as per the following given data:
FY 2016-17 : 2900 Admissions
FY 2017-18 : 4600 Admissions
FY 2018-19 : 3250 Admissions (un to December 2018)
The above figures and demands of parents to encourage home schooling in general are indicators that home schooling may get more traction in future.
